Final Cut Pro has long been Apple's most advanced video editing application for the Mac. Several years ago, Apple streamlined the application to include magnetic snapping, compound clips, and inline prevision editing. Final Cut Pro also provides enhanced media management for improved collaboration, improved performance and background processing, 2D and 3D graphics, third-party plug-ins, intuitive color grading, and one- step output processing. Final Cut Pro performance is enhanced when used in conjunction with Motion and Compressor.
iMovie was part of what Apple called its iLife suite and is designed for the average Mac user. Unlike the advanced editor, Final Cut Pro X, iMovie offers a more streamlined video editing interface, including basic features like titles, soundtracks, and transitions. The most recent iteration for the latest operating system, Mavericks, follows a minimalist design framework to simplify access and ease of use. Adjustments tools along the top right provide color correction and balance, cropping and stabilization; volume control, noise reduction, and video and audio filters. Apple also introduced "Theater," which enables the user to save final videos in iCloud to be shared across platforms and devices. The latest version of iMovie is more intuitive, making it the most accessibly version to date. Despite these past improvements, Apple has not put a lot of effort into developing iMovie further. It's main focus has been on iOS and the Clips app, most likely in an effort to appear to younger audiences.
