Apple introduced iBooks Author in January 2012 at an education event in New York. The application was presented as a robust publishing platform for creating interactive books, especially textbooks for the education sector. The interactive books are intended to be read on an iPad or a Mac, with the latter being the sole platform for using the software. IBooks Author comes with beautiful templates and interactive features that are quite impressive. Each templates comes with the ability to add introductory videos and interactive widgets, such as picture galleries, review questions and quizzes, html segments, Keynote, interactive images, 3d objects, scrolling sidebars, pop-overs, and a media widget for audio and video. The interface is almost identical to the inspector and menu controls found throughout the iWorks Suite. iBooks Author is arguably the most impressive software Apple has ever produced. Pages is part of the iWork suite of applications, along with Keynote and Numbers, and is Apple's solution to Word processing. Pages includes built-in tools for formatting, including menus and tool bars for importing and modifying content, such as images, diagrams, charts, symbols and shapes. Pages can be used to create flyers and invitations or formal documents like resumes and cover letters. Pages is supported by iCloud and can be edited in a browser using your iCloud account. Of course, documents sync perfectly with iOS devices.
